Purpose
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Engineer with a strong focus on the Salesforce platform to join our team. This position reports to the Director of Applications and Data and serves as a member of cross-functional teams supporting the needs of faculty, staff, and students at the McCombs School of Business. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Salesforce solutions to meet our business needs. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on developer with a deep understanding of Salesforce, coupled with expertise in broader full-stack development. You should be comfortable working across various layers of the technology stack and in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
The work involves developing an understanding of the business needs; eliciting, documenting, and clarifying requirements; designing, developing, and testing applications, databases, and business intelligence solutions; integrating custom, commercial, and software-as-a-service applications. A strong candidate has a clear understanding of designing and developing applications that are secure, scalable, reliable, and easy to use. Strong communication skills and teamwork are highly valued.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement custom Salesforce applications and solutions to support business processes.
- Build, maintain, and enhance Salesforce integration with third-party systems, utilizing APIs and web services.
- Customize Salesforce using Apex, Visualforce, AJAX, SOQL, Lightning Components, and other platform technologies.
- Develop and maintain SQL-based backend services and .NET/C# applications as needed to support Salesforce and other enterprise systems.
- Collaborate with front-end developers on building modern web applications utilizing JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS.
- Implement and maintain Salesforce flows, triggers, and workflow rules to automate processes and improve efficiency.
- Design and run automated data imports, programmatic data mapping, and data transformation using best practices and tools.
- Participate in code reviews, unit testing to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Ensure data integrity and security within Salesforce through configuration and customization, administration, as well as implementing Salesforce best practices.
Participate in and collaborate with cross-functional teams in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including business requirements gathering, high level architecture decisions, cost estimates and production release support.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including business analysts, product owners, architects and application designers, to translate business requirements into robust, scalable software architecture and design solutions.
- Perform cost analysis and estimates.
Perform software unit and integration testing, facilitate user acceptance testing and support production validation.
Perform regular system maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting, ensuring Salesforce is running optimally.
- Participate in and support Salesforce administration and system configuration.
- Stay up to date with the latest Salesforce releases and development best practices.
Provide technical leadership on projects and mentor junior developers, helping them grow in their technical abilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in Salesforce development with a proven track record of delivering Salesforce-based solutions.
- Deep expertise in Salesforce Apex, Visualforce, AJAX, SOQL, Lightning Components, and Salesforce declarative tools.
- Strong knowledge of Salesforce administration, including profiles, roles, permissions, workflows, and security settings.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in both a team environment and independently.
- Experience using Salesforce data tools (e.g., Data Loader, Eclipse Force.com IDE, Gearset).
- Experience integrating development with modern deployment and release processes (e.g., agile; continuous integration; Jenkins; Git).
- Experience in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
- Knowledge of unit testing, integration testing, and test-driven development (TDD) to ensure software quality.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Salesforce certifications such as Platform Developer I/II, Salesforce Administrator, or Salesforce Architect.
- Full-stack development experience, particularly in .NET/C#, SQL, and JavaScript.
- Experience in software application design and architecture, with a proven track record of designing and building scalable, performant applications.
- Experience with University data workflow and knowledge of business processes.
- Experience with relational databases, data modeling, and ETL with Salesforce.
- Experience with integrating Salesforce with other systems using APIs for REST/JSON, SOAP/XML services.
- Experience with API management and ESB deployment.
- Experience with HTML5, CSS3, and responsive web design.
- Experience working with Salesforce Education Cloud, Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, or other Salesforce products.
- Familiarity with Agile or Scrum methodologies and the ability to participate in and lead sprint planning, design sessions, and retrospectives.
- Ability to flourish in a complex environment that includes numerous stakeholder groups, competing priorities, and matrix management structure.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a focus on design challenges, performance optimization, and scalability
Salary Range
$90,000 - $130,000 depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
- Works in standard office conditions, in a shared office environment with repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
- Some evening and weekend hours may be required during peak periods and special events.
